
The aim of the Perth Jazz Society is to further the interest in and appreciation of jazz, to encourage and assist in the live performance of jazz, and to promote the knowledge of jazz through specific development projects. SCHOOLS with the strongest Jazz programs have been selected by the AJEA (Australian Jazz Education Association) for this year’s concert. Wesley College Big Band, (Mark Underwood) Combined Schools Jazz Ensemble (Grant Rickman), CBC Jazz Orchestra, Fremantle (Shane Mancuso).
CBC Jazz Orchestra, Fremantle is one of Western Australia’s most exciting school bands. With an average age of sixteen, the orchestra has been invited to perform for many and varied events around Perth, including the Blues and Roots Festival, Rotary events, Clancy’s Fish Pub, Fremantle Dockers and Jazz Fremantle.
The band has received many honourable mentions and 1st place in the Entertainment Band Section in the Catholic Schools Performing Arts Festival in 2006 and won the Ensemble category in the 2004 WA Schools Jazz Festival.
The band recorded a CD in 2003 and completed successful tours to Adelaide in 2004 and Melbourne in 2005.
In 2007 the Jazz Orchestra travelled to Mt Gambier to compete in the Generations In Jazz National Stage Band awards and toured to Singapore in July 2009.
Performing the music from the classic big band era of the 40’s through to the funk/rock sounds of today, the band appeals to an audience of all ages.
