MAT JODRELL - HOME FROM NEW YORK - A Jazz Windows event

Mon 26 Jul 2010 @ 8:00pm

Admission Members $10 PJS Student Members $8 Non-members $15

(Homecoming)

ACCEPTED into the Bachelor of Music degree at the WA Conservatorium of Music at the age of sixteen, trumpeter, Mat Jodrell is one of those phenomenal jazz artists that continue to achieve both in Australia and overseas.
He has recently completed his Masters degree at the prestigious Juilliard School in New York and before relocating to America, was one of the most in-demand trumpet players in Australia. Mind you he is also a fantastic pianist!
Mat has received numerous accolades - including the NFAA (National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts – an American award), Clifford Brown/Stan Getz Fellowship (five finalists chosen worldwide), the Young Australian of the Year Award, the James Morrison scholarship for most outstanding young Australian Jazz instrumentalist and many more. Not one to be overwhelmed by his success, Mat’s persona is that of the quiet achiever whether it is playing with the likes of Benny Golson, Frank Foster, Ernie Watts or Carmen Lundy.

Mat will be performing with Carl Mackey (sax), Tom O'Halloran (piano), Pete Jeavons (bass) and Danny Susnjar (drums). As Mat says "I guess the vibe will be Speedballish - my other gigs in Perth will have different line-ups and a lot of original music, whereas this will be more swingin', hard boppy kind of vibe, nice ballads, you know, straight ahead kinda."

Don’t miss this one.
