“This is world class contemporary music performed by some of the very best exponents in this country.” John McBeath, The Adelaide Advertiser
This performance will see eminent saxophonist and composer Sandy Evans delighting in the freedom of the classic saxophone trio format with a brilliant rhythm section in Brett Hirst (bass) and Toby Hall (drums).
Regular performances in Australia, two European tours and the release of the trio’s album 'Not In the Mood' have established the band's reputation as one of the finest in the country. With this trio, Sandy renews her long association with outstanding drummer Toby Hall. Sandy and Toby are known for their exciting work together in bands such as Clarion Fracture Zone and The Catholics.
“My work is informed by jazz, world music and free improvised traditions. I have been seeking to develop my own language through a fusion of these diverse influences. I consider this trio to be my home base where I can really explore the ideas that are fundamental to my expression as a human being.” says Sandy.
Sandy also has a deepening interest in Indian classical music, inspired by tours to India with the Australian Art Orchestra, where they had the privilege of collaborating with the virtuoso mridangam player Guru Karaikudi R.Mani. The trio’s repertoire will include music from this beautiful and exciting area.
The Sandy Evans Trio appears in Perth as part of an Australian national tour undertaken with the assistance of Sound Travellers.
