JOYOUS JAZZ from a Diva!
Sue Bluck started her musical journey on piano and trumpet at a very young age and is now acknowledged as one of WA’s finest jazz and blues singers along with her piano and compositional skills, earning her the respect of her peers and audiences alike.
As a founding member of the Jazz Divas and the vocal group Birdland, Sue has supported many visiting artists including, James Morrison, The Commodores and Jose Feliciano amongst countless others. Her latest venture was the launch of her second CD ‘Tune Into My Station’ late last year, that received rave reviews. Tonight some of the tracks from the CD will be featured.
One of Sue’s special guests will be the outstanding jazz and blues guitarist, Dave Brewer. Dave began playing with Perth Blues band The Elks and after moving to Sydney, joined the Soul/R&B band The Dynamic Hepnotics. Throughout the 1990s Dave’s primary focus was the band Mighty Reapers which released five CD’s with the Rufus Records label, as well as playing many performances throughout the East Coast.
A founding member of The Catholics Dave toured nationally as well as two tours to Canada and one throughout Europe where the band performed at both the Montreal and North Sea Jazz Festivals. Since moving back to his home town, Perth in 2000 Dave has been playing regularly with Lucky Oceans, Jonathon Cope, Supreme Motown and the Sue Bluck Quintet as well as various local jazz and blues groups.
With Sue tonight is a stellar lineup of musical colleagues, Roy Martinez (electric bass), Dave Brewer (guitar) and the welcome return of drummer, Garry Howard - who has been living in Queensland for the past nine years. This will be a night of joyous jazz and blues. Don’t miss it!
