CHILL OUT tonight with the smooth grooves of acclaimed guitarists Dave Smith and Cory Sea and their quartet. A tribute to contemporary jazz and Latin guitar, with some original material, is promised by Dave and Cory as they create musical magic that comes from their long friendship and musical collaboration.
Excellent support will come from the talented Pete Jeavons on bass and Chris Tarr on drums.
Cory Sea
Cory Sea is a well-known member of the Jazz Guitar Society of Western Australia and has performed with Australian musicians Kevin Hunt, Tom Baker, Bruce Mathiske, Doug De Vries, Andrew Firth, Stephen Grant, Alan Turnbull, Garry Lee and Helen Matthews. National and other press accolades include those in the Brisbane Courier-Mail and the Australian. He has performed at the Manly, Thredbo, Melbourne, Gold Coast, Grafton and Brisbane Jazz festivals and is seen regularly at venues in the Perth metropolitan area. Cory has recently moved to the Central Coast of NSW.
David Smith
David Smith was born in Sydney in 1954 and is essentially self-taught but between 1973-75 he had a little tuition with Roy Plummer, George Golla and Ike Isaacs. He quotes his principal influences as Wes Montgomery, George Benson, Joe Pass, John McLaughlin among the guitar greats; and Bill Evans, Charlie Parker and John Coltrane. Well, you can’t argue with that crew!
At home, David has now played at most major jazz venues and festivals as well as concert halls in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Queensland and NZ; he has done TV and radio, and taught at WAAPA and other Australian musical institutes. His international experience includes London from 1975 to 79 – the 100 Club, Phoenix, and White Heart; performance and recording in Spain; New York shows with Jack Wilkins, Peter Leitch, Paul Bollenback, Chuck Wayne, Steve LaSpina and Jeff Hirshfield. He has released three albums; and you may have read of him in The Jazz Guitar, Jazz Guitar 2000, Just Jazz Guitar, and Crescendo.
