DENISE Dale is a vocalist rarely heard of late at the Perth Jazz Society. Her visit, combined with the talents of GLT - Garry Lee (vibes/guitar), Lukasz Slawomirski (keyboards), Tim Woolley (drums) and virtuoso Michael Collinson (sax) makes this a do-not-miss occasion.
"Denise and I first worked together over 25 years ago, says Garry Lee.
"I had recently arrived from Sydney and secured a regular Wednesday night at White Sands, Scarborough. Denise was our vocalist and it was obvious to me that she possessed a resonance and timbre to her voice that is of outstanding quality.
"At that stage Denise was probably better known as an R&B vocalist especially in the pubs around her home town of Fremantle. However, her ability to deliver a ballad and tunes from the standard jazz repertoire is exemplary."
MICHAEL Collinson is a quiet achiever in a city that now boasts some of the finest saxophonists in Australia. Regularly performing at the funk/R&B venue 'The Universal' Michael is a superb saxophonist who successfully blends the energy of funk with the subtleties of bop and post bop styles.
GLT continues to develop with regular gigs at Sunset Room, Mindarie Marina and The Loft, Little Creatures, Fremantle (with Denise), as well as the occasional corporate function and working with Perth's premier jazz vocalist, James Flynn.
Repertoire for the PJS evening will include quality jazz standards as well as the occasional original by Garry, in swing, ballad and latin style.
