This innovative ensemble has picked up a string of awards since their formation, including the 2009 Jazz 'Bell' Award for 'Best Australian Jazz Song of the Year', the 2008 WAM Song Competition (Jazz) and a 2009 nomination for 'Best Jazz Act' at the WAMI Awards. A graduate of the WA Academy of Performing Arts, Johannes Luebbers has won numerous awards, including the 2006 Bob Wylie scholarship and the 2006 APRA Professional Development Award for Jazz. He was recently awarded 2009 WA 'Youth Arts' Citizen of the Year at the West Australian Citizen of the Year Awards.
The line-up for this gig will be Emily Thomas & Kevin Penkin (flute), Stephanie Nicholls (oboe), Ben Collins (clarinet/alto sax), Dan Thorne (tenor sax), Callum G'Froerer (trumpet), Doree Dixon (french horn), Tilman Robinson (trombone), Chris Foster (Piano), Nick Abbey (bass), Ben Falle (drums), Aaron Malone (vocals), Johannes Luebbers (piano accordion) - a dectet with 13 members, now that's value.
