Pianist Daniel Gassin recorded his debut album 'Roundtrip' in 2004 with funding obtained from winning the Banyule/La Trobe University Young Artists’ Award. The album was influenced by seven months spent living in Paris In 2002-2003 (where he studied with local stalwart Laurent Fickelson), and has received significant airtime on prominent national and local radio.
The Daniel Gassin Trio has recently released its second album, “Crossover” recorded with Mal Stanley for ABC Jazztrack, on Vorticity Records.
"A brilliant, lyrical young Melbourne pianist-composer. With support from Leigh Barker on bass and the wonderful drumming of Harry Shaw-Reynolds, these guys bear comparison with the best. Sizzling, beautiful stuff."
(Richard Mohr - Readings)
"This is piano trio music that gets the sort of intense hum going that only the best of 'em do" Ken Weir, Sunday Herald Sun
At PJS Daniel will be playing with Ben Vanderwal on drums and Marcos Varela from New York. An outstanding young bass player who has already toured and performed with such giants as Geri Allen, Ravi Coltrane and Donny McCaslin. He also writes film music, and is currently doing work for Scorsese's daughter's latest film, no less!
