VISITING from the USA where he has recently completed the first year of his two-year Master of Music studies at the University of Miami, Daniel Susnjar presents a special group featuring all new compositions and an all-star line-up featuring some of Australia's finest musicians.
In Miami from August 2008, Daniel quickly became an in-demand drummer. He's played with a host of world-class artists including Joshua Redman, Sam Rivers, Jeff Coffin, Tom Kennedy, Carmen Bradford, Kevin Mahogany, Steve Bailey, Federico Britos, Eric Marienthal, Greg Gisbert, Shelly Berg and Alex Norris. At the University Daniel is a member of the school's award-winning Concert Jazz Band and Frost Jazz Sextet ensembles. Next semester he will be teaching, as private drum tutor and ensemble director.
Two recent recordings on which Daniel played won 2009 Downbeat Student Awards for audio engineering by Brian Gerstle. These tracks feature the U.M. Concert Jazz Band, and Daniel's own quartet, with special guest Troy Roberts on saxophone. He says: "With so many great players on the Miami scene, and so many talented students coming out of U.M., it's vital to not only present yourself as a high quality musician, but to also develop an original style that enables you to stand out not only as a performer, but also as a composer and creator of quality original recordings."
With this in mind, Daniel will premiere his nonet for the PJS concert, featuring all new compositions written in Miami.
It is an event you must not miss!
