PENNY King and Bronwynn Sprogowski are both WAYJO alumni and tonight they are singing together for the first time since those big band beginnings. Supported by Glyn Macdonald, Peter Jeavons and Daniel Susnjar - and some special second-set guests - they come together to present music by singer/songwriters they both admire.
The creativity of early artists such as Billie Holiday and current performers like Beady Belle will be reprised as P&B perform jazz arrangements of tunes such as Fire and Rain, I Feel the Earth Move and, inevitably, Come Together.
Penny
Penny has been performing professionally since graduating from WAAPA in 1996. She has made numerous PJS appearances as a featured vocalist with WAYJO, as well as in front of her own quartet, and within the annual Ladies of Jazz concert line-up.
Among her many other gigs are the Rottnest Festival, York Jazz Festival, Fremantle International Jazz Festival, His Majesty's Lunchtime concert series, City of Joondalup's Sunday Serenades, Jazz on the Rocks at the Quarry Amphitheatre, Jazz Fremantle, the Universal Bar, the Oxford Hotel, The Subiaco Hotel Café, Reveleys, the University Club, the Mad Monk Brewery and Hotel Northbridge.
Penny has sung alongside such luminaries as James Morrison and Dale Barlow, and, as part of the Mike Pigneguy sextet, supported Dame Kiri Te Kanawa when she performed with the West Australian Symphony Orchestra.
Bronwynn
Bronwynn Sprogowski, an established vocal artist in Perth's jazz scene is known for her smooth swinging vocal style. Influenced by the sounds of jazz from an early age, Bronwynn was a featured vocalist in the Kalamunda Youth Swing Band as well as WAYJO before and during WAAPA. Bronwynn's talent and experience has seen her perform with an array of international artists - Lionel Hampton, Frank Foster, Don Burrows, James Morrison, Tommy Emmanuel, Daryl Somers, Grace Knight and Mark Murphy.
She toured WA's north-west in the Billie Holiday Tribute, and much further afield at jazz festivals and clubs in the USA, UK and New Zealand. Bron has supported such artists as George Benson, Shirley Bassey, Rolf Harris and Roberta Flack.
Since forming her own quintet in 1996 Bronwynn has often performed at PJS, Jazz Fremantle, Fremantle Festival, Joondalup Festival, the Festival of Mandurah and the Perth International Arts Festival.
