GLT is a unique instrumentation in Australian jazz with Lukasz Slawomirski [keyboards doubling left hand bass] Tim Woolley [drums] and Garry Lee [vibraphone and guitar]. The trio draws its inspiration from music of Wes Montgomery and Jimmy Smith and the more contemporary pairing of Peter Bernstein and Larry Goldings. In 1998 Garry met and jammed with Peter Bernstein in NYC and credits him as an ongoing influence.
However the trio will perform a large proportion of original repertoire where the influences are varied – Bobby Hutcherson to John Scofield. GLT especially enjoys performing latin music in the vibes tradition of Cal Tjader and more recently Dave Samuels.
GLT is not short on experience with over 100 years combined of playing jazz – Lukasz was a leading jazz musician in his native Poland playing with an array of that country’s jazz artists before migrating to Australia in 1981; Tim was a fixture on the London jazz scene until moving here in 1985 working with artists like Bill Le Sage, Don Weller and Ian Ballantyne; Garry led his jazz quartet to win Opportunity Knocks on the 7 network in 1976 before moving to Perth in 1983. Garry and Lukasz performed with the great US bassist Victor Gaskin [Thelonious Monk Quartet, Cannonball Adderley Quintet, Billy Taylor Trio] in Singapore before 5,000 jazz fans in 1999 and have been performing together for over 25 years.
