This evening celebrates the first anniversary of the entry of the Retrosonics onto the Perth music scene (April 20, 2008). During the first twelve months they have performed at Fremantle Jazz, the Perth Jazz society and the York Jazz and Soul Festival. On each occasion the band has received outstanding feedback and support. In fact after hearing them for the first time at York, the Perth singer/songwriter and bandleader Libby Hammer (Hip Mo Toast) booked the band for her own special birthday event later this year.
The Retrosonics play a mixture of Blues, Soul, Funk and Rock, all with a jazz flavour. Its music style has influences from Ray Charles, Etta James, Aretha Franklin, Tower of Power, Kool and the Gang and a host of others. Starting off with the development of an expansive repertoire, the band plans to follow up with the writing of original material for recording.
The line-up for this gig will be Alida Wright (vocals), Ricki Malet and Callum G’Froerer (trumpets), Tilman Robinson (trombone), Roger Garrood (alto sax and arrangements), Ben Collins (tenor sax), Mark Sprogowsky (baritone sax), Mace Francis (guitar), Mike Nelson (keyboards and arrangements), Wayne Slater (bass) and Glen Walsh (drums).
Be sure to complete your Easter holiday with an enjoyable evening listening to this tight ensemble and its many fine soloists.
