Formed in early 2009, Beatrix is a group of young, similar-minded, Perth-based musicians. The band features Callum G’Froerer (Trumpets), Brett Thompson (Guitars), Tal Cohen (Keyboards), Phil Waldron (Basses) and Peter Evans (Drums).
Looking to take a side-step from their current studies in the more traditional improvisational music of jazz at the West Australian Academy of Performing Arts, the Beatrix Kiddo artists aim to take the free nature of this music and incorporate it into the other styles of music they enjoy.
The band draws from the sounds of many genres, including classical, electronica, post-rock and drum and bass. Individual influences include Schoenberg, Stockhausen, Bartok, Radiohead, The Police, Hendrix, Sonic Youth, Aphex Twin, and the Phil Slater Quartet.
