The Keijzer McGuiness Quintet is a Netherlands-Australia collaboration that breathes life into jazz. Amongst the best young players in their hometowns, Dutch saxophonist Remco Keijzer and Australian trombonist Lucian McGuiness develop material for the band in their respective hemispheres. Come and experience the electrifying energy and inspiration that builds up when they get together during these short but intense periods of writing, touring and playing.

A Keijzer-McGuiness performance features soaring melody and gutsy engagement from the tenor pair, which is often marked by explosive climaxes driven by the youthful energy of drummer James Hauptmann and bassist Mike Majkowski, and given soul by the breadth and vigour of Matt McMahon’s keyboard textures.

Remco Keijzer studied jazz and improvisation at the Hilversum Conservatory, the Conservatory of Amsterdam and the Manhattan School of Music. In his young career he has played with Dick Oatts, Dave Binney, Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw, Holland Bigband, John Benitez, Jeff Ballard, Mike Manieri, Pierre Courbois and Jasper Blom, throughout Europe and Australia, and in New York.

Lucian McGuiness has studied in Canberra, Amsterdam and Sydney, and currently plays with the Jazzgroove Mothership Orchestra and Ben Walsh’s Crusty Suitcase Band. He has performed or recorded with a wide variety of artists including Jim McNeely, Shasha Marley, the Herd, the Green Septet, the Holland Big Band and Steve Hunter.

Matt McMahon is a pianist/keyboardist /composer who has played throughout Australia and Asia. Matt won the National Jazz Award in 1999 and the Freedman Jazz Fellowship in 2005. Mike Majkowski is one of the new breed of creative musicians currently emerging on Australian's music scene, having an active interest in contemporary music. He is a gifted bassist/composer. James Hauptmann is a professional drummer based in Sydney. He has toured and recorded with Mark Isaacs, Steve Hunter, Exposed Bone and Elana Stone.

During this Australian tour, the Keijzer McGuiness Quintet will play music from its début release CD, ‘The Seed Habit’ (Rufus/Universal) with new tracks from Remco and Lucian. Don’t miss this special opportunity to see the talent of this group.
