Troy Roberts brings together a remarkable ensemble to perform his original suite of music inspired by the late Alan Corbet, and recorded as the XenDen Suite.

The ensemble features an intriguing double quartet arrangement - a jazz quartet featuring Troy on saxophone, Daniel Susnjar on drums, Pete Jeavons on bass and Tom O’Halloran on piano, plus a string quartet featuring Semra Lee and Stephanie Dean on violins, Alex Brogan on viola and Matthew Hoy on cello.

Troy has recently returned from the US where he performed alongside nine other saxophonists from around the world, chosen as semi finalists in the prestigious Thelonious Monk International Jazz Competition in Los Angeles. Whilst in the US Troy launched XenDen Suite at The Globe Jazz Club in Miami, performing with a group featuring Daniel Susnjar (who is studying there), and acclaimed US musicians Eric England (bass) from Troy’s US-based Jive Collective and Doug Bickel (piano), head of the Piano Department at Miami U.

“XenDen Suite is my dedication to celebrating the life of one of my closest friends, the late Alan Corbet (1964 – 2008), a close friend and driving force of the West Australian Jazz scene. Alan created a label, XenDen Music, specifically designed for original and independent musicians. But unfortunately due to Alan’s untimely passing, the label’s full potential never came to fruition. This record is my tribute to an amazing man with incredible vision”  says Troy.

Troy Roberts’ XenDen Suite CD will be available for a special price tonight only.

“Troy Roberts is a master of the Tenor Saxophone, the consummate player. He plays with an agility and articulation that not only settles well in the groove, but at incredible velocity. That would be enough for some, but Troy plays with expression at these speeds. Robert's performance goes even further. You can hear his soul through the performance…Troy's performance shows the versatility of his skills and improvisation. Roberts is as expressive as any saxophone player of today and owns the technique to back up his performance.” Radio IOJAZZ
